How Social Media Is Affecting Us

Social media has had an everlasting impact on generations since we have had access to it. It has been utilized as a form of communication between people, but has often replaced face-to-face interaction. Social media is a great way to stay connected with friends and family, but should not be used as a replacement for communicating in person. I believe that people my age and younger have  began to abuse social media. These young adults are using social media platforms inappropriately, such as online bullying, and replacing face-to-face interaction. With social media can be used to stay in touch with those family and friends who do not live close. Facebook is a major gateway of communication of adults my age and older who wish to stay connected and up to date with events going on in their friends and families lives. Social media can be extremely beneficial to our generations, but does in fact have its flaws.

Popular Social Media Platforms

As a child, I have grown up in this very advanced technological world, I have had exposure to social media since I was young. I have grown up in a world where technology has been at my fingertips. Any question I have, could be Googled and answered within minutes. When I was allowed to create my own profiles on various social media platforms, the first sites I joined were Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and Snapchat. I have been an avid user of these social media platforms ever since. Many young adults my age have personal profiles on these media sites as well. According to the Pew Research Center, nearly two-thirds of American adults (65%) use social networking sites. With these statistics continuing to grow, social media is here to stay and will continue to impact our world for years to come.

Social Media: The Beginning

Welcome to my first blog!
When Facebook came on the scene in 2003, it was reserved for the college crowd and even required a .edu email account to register. Now that grandma is sharing yet another false alarm via Facebook, the younger generations have moved onto new social spaces. My name is Jordan Yoder and I have created this blog for an abundance of reasons. I am a 20 year-old living in a fast-paced, technologically advanced world. Sometimes I don't know how to navigate it. Throughout the course of this blog I will discuss the various uses and opinions of social media from various generations. I cannot wait to share my insights with you on this platform we all use and abuse every single day, known as social media.
